Rules & Regulations

Please read carefully the following rules and regulations as failure to comply could result in disqualification.


REGISTRATIONS/ ENTRIES

  • Only online registration will be accepted
  • Please visit our website registration page at http://www.destinationdanceuk.com/register/ to register
  • Entries will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and will be limited to the amount of performance time available. Once we are sold out, no more entries will be accepted.  Please note our competitions are very popular most events are sold out well before the closing date. 
ONLINE REGISTRATION SYSTEM
  • Our online registration system is very user friendly here you can enter your competition dances, upload competition music and receive judges feedback. 
  • Please note that you can enter information and make changes to your dances until the closing date ( please do not complete your registration until you are sure you do not want to make anymore changes and you are ready to pay your compeition fees)
  • Please note no changes will be allowed at the competition so please ensure song titles, dancers names, ages and routines are entered correctly by the closing date. 
  • Trouble Shooting: Under State/Provence- simply enter your country as the UK doesn’t have states 


AGE DIVISIONS:

  • Ages 8 & Under Elementary
  • Ages 9–11 Junior
  • Ages 12–14 Teen
  • Ages 15–19 Senior
  • Age 20+ Adult
  • Ages are determined by the age you will be on the day of the competition. 
  • Duo/ Trio and Group ages are determined by the Average age of the dancers.                  
  • If a protest regarding age arises, all competitors must be prepared to present proof of age. All protests must be signed and presented in writing within half an hour of the incident to the directors of DESTINATION DANCE

  • *At any competition, if any act drops below the minimum number of performers required in the group they registered for, the act will be awarded based on points and will not be eligible for High Score Awards

PAYMENTS 

  • Destination Dance only accepts payments via BACS. 
  • Please submit payments to Destination Dance Limited, Lloyds, Sort Code: 30-99-86, Account Number: 13987763 international payments please use: IBAN- GB52LOYD30998613987763
  • All entries must be paid by bank transfer (with Dance School name) with out the dance school name we may not be able to trace your payment. 
  • Payments must be made in FULL by the closing date for each competition. If payments are not reeived, Destination reserves the right to give away your spaces to another school. 
  • NO REFUNDS

TIME LIMITS

  • SOLOS are a maximum of 2 mins (with a grace period of 2mins and 10 sec)
  • DUO/TRIOS are a maximum of 2mins 45 sec
  • GROUPS are 3 mins (you can purchase extra time for groups ONLY and is charged at £3 per person per routine)
  • Please check your music before you upload it as ime limits are checked before each competition. 


SCHEDULE: 

  • Schedules are subject to change but will be confirmed no later than 2 weeks before the competition date. Though whenever possible we will have an idea of what acts will be on which days so please dont hesitate to ask. 
  • Please note exact performance times will be released no later than 2 weeks before the competition and students must be prepared to compete on which ever day they have been assigned. 
  • Every competition schedule is set up based solely on the breakdown of entries by solos, duets/ trios and groups for that particular city.  We do not have this breakdown until all entries have been processed and at that time we set up a schedule, which will best accommodate the people at that competition.
  • DESTINATION DANCE will assign a unique entry number to each act, this is for reference and identification purposes only.
  • Please be back stage five numbers before you are due to perform.
  • Example Schedule (Saturday: Section 1:  Junior solos, junior large groups, followed by AWARDS for Section one Section 2: Junior duet/ trio, teen solos and teen duo/trios, followed by awards for Section two Sunday: Section 3: Senior solos and senior large groups (awards for Section three) Section 4:  Senior standard groups and Senior duet/trios, followed by Awards for Section 4 (this award ceremony will also announce the overall studio cup winner and judges choice)

MUSIC

  • All music must be entered into your registration page no later than one month before the competition.  Failure to do so may result in the act not being able to perform. 
  • WE DO NOT ACCEPT MUSIC ON THE DAY OF COMPETITION!
  • You will find the link to upload your music in your registration account dashboard.
  • Please bring back up music on a iPod, iphone, iPad or computer to the competition in case of emergencies.
  • If your music stops due to a technicality in the theatre you will be allowed to dance again. However, you will not be allowed to dance again if you forget your dance. 
  • Please ensure all music is appropriate and does not contain swearing or explicit content. Violation will result in point deductions.


 ENTRY CHANGES

  • Routines can be edited and changed on the online system up to the closing date and in some cases up to one week before the event please ensure all information is correct including song titles and entry categories on the online system before the competition!  There are NO changes at the competition
  • Delete or remove routines- If you cancel or delete a routine that has been entered on to the online registration system you will be charged a £5 administration fee.

ENTRY LIMITS

  • Please note there is a limit of 3 solos per person. 


CATEGORIES 

  • Novice - Novice is a category for students who are newer to competing and are of a beginner level.  All styles will compete against each other and we accept solos, duo/trios and groups in the novice category.   Competitors will receive medals (Platinum, Gold, Silver depending on scores) but are not eligible for High Score Awards.  1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded in the Novice category.
  • Ballet – Includes classical steps and ballet technique, both soft shoes and point shoes are permitted 
  • Contemporary– Interpretative dance category must be modern in style, can be a combination of jazz, modern and ballet technique incorporating balance, control and musical interpretation  
  • Hip Hop/ Street – Urban based dance style often performed to hip hop or current music.  Routines can include breaking, popping, locking, krumping, freezes, gymnastics etc. or any new social dance being introduced to the streets
  • Jazz – Incorporates various styles of dance and genres of music but distinguishes itself by its musicality with an emphasis on strong accents and characterization.  Often includes Kicks, jumps, leaps, turns and isolations etc.  
  • Lyical-A combination of Jazz and Ballet techniques to slow music, incorporating emotional and story telling elements 
  • Musical Theatre (Song & Dance) – (Microphones may be limited) Requires dancing and singing.  Should interpret a song from a West End, Broadway or movie musical (can include backing vocals) 
  • Tap – Routine must consist of tap technique and primarily tap work (no tap sounds on track) 
  • Open –This category is for any routine that doesn’t fall into any of our specific performance categories, can include acro, ballroom, disco, folk, cheerleading etc.)

SPECTATORS

  •  All competitions are free to watch. 

PRIZES/ AWARDS

  • For Categories with only one entry a 1st place can only be awarded to Gold and Platinum winners. 
  • If there are two or more entries in a category, a competitive first place award will be presented to the entry with the highest score
  • There will be no ties in the special awards categories


COSTUME AWARD

  • Costume Award entries can be entered no later than 30mins prior to performing.  All entries will be judged during performance of the nominated routine.  (Novice category excluded from costume, title and overall awards) 
  • Junior Solo Award (11 & Under) 
  • Senior Solo Award (12 years and above) 
  • Junior Duo/Trio Award (11 & Under) 
  • Senior Duo/Trio Award (12 years and above) 
  • Junior Group Award (11 & Under) 
  • Senior Group Award (12 years and above)


BEST IN SHOW AWARD

  • One winner from every competition will be awarded 'Best In Show' for that competition. The winner is chosen by the judges and can be any age, dance style or competition category.


STUDIO CUP AWARD

  • The studio cup will be awarded to the dance school with the highest number points per competition. Totals will be an average of all entries per dance school.

TITLE COMPETITION

  • Destination Dance will be hosting a Title competition at each event, which will be incorporated into the solo competition. 
  • If you wish to have your routine judged for title, please check the attend solo title box when registering your solo.  
  • Only dance solos can enter for title. No vocal entries for this competition. 
  • We accept title entries on the day however they must be submitted no later than 30mins prior to performance.
  • All entries will be judged for Title during the performance of their chosen routine(s) during the competition.
  • There is a £5 fee to enter The DESTINATION DANCE 
  • Title Categories as follows (Junior Miss/ Mr Destination Dance (11yrs and under)Teen Miss/ Mr Destination Dance (12-14yrs) Senior Miss/ Mr DESTINATION DANCE (15-19yrs)

JUDGING SYSTEM

  • Score out of 100 based on the following breakdown:
  • 25 points Technique
  • 25 points Musicality
  • 25 points Choreography
  • 25 points Overall Performance
  • Awards based on overall points: (Platinum Award 85-100 points, Gold Award 70-84 points, Silver Award 50-69, Bronze Award 49and below)


CRITIQUES

  • Contestants will be judged by a panel of highly-qualified adjudicators, and all decisions of the adjudicators will be accepted as final.
  • We are excited to announce that this year all contestant will be given video feedback from the judges.  Videos and scores will be available on your online account one week after the competition. 


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Solo performers may never compete against themselves in the same age or performance category.
  • No dangerous props may be used such as fire, swords, knives etc.  
  • General props and gymnastics mats are allowed. 
  • No form of liquids (including water), gels, aerosols, glitter, or confetti, etc. which may affect the stage surface, may be used during a routine.
  • All props must be in place within 1 minute please ensure all props backstage must be labelled with School/ Studio name for identification purposes.  
  • No additional sound equipment or microphones may be used or connected to the DESTINATION DANCE sound system.  
  • It is advisable to wear footwear suitable for your performance category
  • NO REFUNDS will be issued.
  • THE DESTINATION DANCE RULES WILL BE EVALUATED AND ENFORCED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS, BASED ON WHAT IS BEST FOR ALL PARTIES INVOLVED
  • ALL competitors are the sole responsibility of their dance school/ studio, DESTINATION DANCE is NOT responsible for any competitor.  ALL entrants under the age of 16 must be chaperoned by a nominated adult at any competition run by DESTINATION DANCE.  The chaperones will be accountable for the behaviour and welfare of minors at all our events. 
  • Sportsmanlike behaviour is expected at all times, failure to display proper decorum could result in immediate disqualification.
  • All rights reserved to DESTINATION DANCE to use competitor photographs and or videos or to appear on local and/ or national television and/ or promotional material 
  • Spectators/ members of the audience are expected to treat all competitors with respect and refrain from making unnecessary noise or movement during performances, however once performances are complete cheering and encouragement are very welcome 
  • DESTINATION DANCE and the hosting facility are not responsible for personal injury or property loss. 
  • DESTINATION DANCE reserves the right to add or reduce competition days or move the competition location due to unforeseen circumstance
  • Any change in competition days and/ or times is at the sole discretion of DESTINATION DANCE and will be determined by the amount of time available at each Competition.
  • ALL ENTRIES MUST COMPETE ON THE DAY AND TIME ASSIGNED ALL ENTRIES WHICH DO NOT COMPETE AT THEIR ASSIGNED DAY AND TIME WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE ADJUDICATED AND WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR HIGH SCORE OR BE AWARDED 1ST PLACE
  • Please ensure entries are stage appropriate and do NOT contain explicit or inappropriate content.
